St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals
drop another one to the Nationals, 6-5. Taking a look at the box score, what do we see?
Well, Brian Barton apparently didn't care for my characterizing his spring as less than ideal. He went 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBI, raising his spring average to .375. You have to think that John Mozeliak is on the phone with the Indians GM seeing if there's not some spare part the Cards can send over for Barton's rights so they can send him down to AAA if necessary.
Another outfielder, Ryan Ludwick, had a strong day as well, 3-4 with a home run as well. Ludwick's just shy of .300 on the spring. I think his slot on the 25-man roster is pretty secure, especially since he hits from the right side, but days like these don't hurt at all.
No one else did much with the bat, it doesn't appear. The Nationals wanted little to do with Pujols, walking him twice. And a tough day for Juan Gonzalez, who left seven men on base.
The good news in the pitching department was that most of the damage was against pitchers that aren't likely to make the squad. Mike Parisi had a rough day on the mound, giving up three runs (2 earned) in three innings. However, all of that happened in the first and
apparently he settled down some after that. Hugo Castellanos gave up two in three innings. Ron Villone and Chris Perez looked OK, though, at least from the lines in the box.
Still no lineup so far for the nightcap, though we do know that Adam Wainwright is pitching.
Joe Strauss had another informative, educational and at times bitingly sarcastic
chat today. Though apparently he's not a big Cardinal blog reader, it's still worth going through.
Also, I've updated the
XM schedule I made a couple of weeks back to reflect the new games that show up on ESPN's site. XM has a schedule on their site, but it only goes through Friday as of right now. My new schedule goes through next Tuesday.
