St. Louis Cardinals
It's like the beginning of
Casablanca--we wait....and wait....and wait.....
Matthew Leach
has an article up about what the Cardinals plan and want to do next week in Vegas. Wouldn't it be fascinating to have a poker game for the players? Winner gets to sign him. Sure, it's got some collusion problems, but talk about making the winter meetings accessible for television!
You could say that there's a to-do list:
Still, it figures to be a busy week for St. Louis, which needs a
left-handed reliever (or two), a second baseman, a shortstop, and
wouldn't mind securing a closer and some starting pitching depth.
If the Cardinals aren't making news just about every day, something is wrong. If they haven't filled any of those spots this next week, I'm going to be concerned, even if we get the standard "we laid the groundwork" line. Something has to be done, if only for us bloggers to have something new to talk about!
It looks like the Giants
really are going after Renteria now. Still, with Renteria's agent saying last week that he'd basically give the Cards the last shot, I keep thinking Edgar will return to Cardinal red. We'll have to see, but that's what I'm thinking.
The 2008 Turnkey Team Brand Index came out earlier this week and
the Cardinals finished 10th, down a slot from last year. They still are the second-highest ranking MLB team, though. The survey measures team brand strength in its home market, so it's not surprising that the Cards are so high.
A reminder that tonight is
UCB radio night. 10:00 CST and, while we have a number of bloggers scheduled to call in, anyone that's listening is encouraged to do so. I believe up to five people can be on at the same time, so don't worry if there's already someone else there.
