Jupiter High Points

I'm battling something--really not sure what--so this one probably will be short.  Which should come as a welcome relief to most regular readers.

Let's hit the high points of camp.

--Really no idea when Troy Glaus will return.  If you are like me, when you read this story you immediately get a bad feeling.  (Wait, that may be just me.)  To me, this sounds like we'll really be lucky to have Glaus back by Memorial Day.  Maybe not, maybe this is typical after these surgeries, but not having a timetable and the Cardinals history of injuries bothers me.  I guess we'll have to wait and see if he gets into any spring training games.  If so, things probably aren't so bad.  If not..........

--Chris Carpenter continues to put the word "rehab" behind him.  I know it's spring.  I know it's Carpenter.  But folks, I can't help but start to get excited about him for this season.  He's looking better and better and reporting no pain.  The question now is if he can keep the command and stuff he had three years ago.  If he does, watch out NL.  I continue to daydream about an effective Carp and a healthy Adam Wainwright back to back in the rotation.  And he's feeling pretty good about a healthy season as well, so who are we to doubt?

--I hadn't heard about MLB instituting, at least for now, the "sign and trade" possibility.  It looks like the Cards are interested in Juan Cruz if they don't have to give up a draft pick for him and there's some talk they might be interested in Orlando Hudson that way as well.  That still doesn't take into account the salary issue, though.  With the Cardinals bumping the top limit of their payroll, I'm not sure they'll be active in this.

--Nice to see Tony LaRussa emphasizing the tradition of the Redbirds in his opening spring training address.  The Cardinals have such a rich and storied history and I think the players realize and respect that.  It's what the fans want to see--baseball played well and by respectful players.

--Adam Kennedy joined the Rays.  If he makes the roster, talk about falling upward....

--Looks like Chris Duncan and Colby Rasmus are getting some particularly strong BP in.  Of course, at this time of year, if you aren't looking good, that's really bad.

--And there was some press conference yesterday, but it didn't have anything to do with St. Louis so there's not much reason to talk about it.

Playing Pepper today takes a look at the Royals and the Brewers, assuming I don't wind up in bed for most of it.  If so, they'll show up sometime.  And no matter what, there is a UCB Radio Hour tonight at 10:00 CST, so listen in!
