Killing Time

Spring training can't come soon enough.

I'm pretty sure the people in St. Louis and parts north of there are really saying that today after the winter weather that they received over night.  (Here, just a drop in temperatures, which is too bad, because a good snow would have meant I could have turned over and gone back to sleep this morning.)  It's cold, there's not much going on, and the hot stove has just about burned itself out.

Of course, there's Winter Warm-Up this weekend, which will fan the flames somewhat, but we've got to get to that point.  That's still a couple of days!

So what is going on?  Well, for one thing, the United Cardinal Bloggers have brought in some new members recently, so you might want to check them out.  We've got Matt at STL Sports 360, Corey at Balls & Strikes, Jeff at Born Bleeding and Tyler at Rally Birds.  If you've not been visiting them, give them a try and get some Cardinal knowledge from them.

Chris Jaffe had a Hall of Fame prediction article up a few days ago.  Now, of course, we know how the voting turned out, but that doesn't mean it's not worth a read anyway.  Anything Chris writes usually is.

Along those lines, Seedlings To Stars, which is a great site covering minor league baseball, recently did a top 100 list.  I've linked to some of their other Cardinal writeups before, but Shelby Miller came in at number 8.  They also wrote another one selecting Florida State League All Stars and Miller made that list as well.

If you missed it, I got a chance Sunday to talk to Jamie Pogue, the new bullpen catcher of the Cardinals.  You can listen to the show from the player on the side or head over to my Podomatic page.  It was a lot of fun to talk to Jamie and find out what his job duties are going to be.  I'm hopeful I can check in with him at the end of the year to find out if the reality met his expectations.

Speaking of the podcast, tonight I'm scheduled to chat with Matthew Leach, so I hope to have that interview up Friday night or sometime Saturday.  I have no doubt that the only way that won't be a wonderful discussion will be me goofing up asking the questions.  A reasonable worry, of course, but I think it'll be fine nonetheless.  (EDIT: Due to scheduling, the talk with Matthew will be next week instead.)

I'll have a link for it when it goes live, but the long-awaited UCB postseason publication should be available to download this weekend.  Jon from Redbird Dugout is cleaning it up and if it's anything like the sample page I saw, it's going to be a real professional layout.  Really looking forward to sharing that with Cardinal Nation!

I have a number of book reviews that I need to write, so hopefully this weekend I can sit down and share some recommendations if you are needing some new books to read.  Also remember that Kevin will be writing about Winter Warm-Up this weekend and, I'm guessing, into next week, so be sure to check that out as well.  Just keep ticking off the days--spring will be here before you know it!
