If the weatherman is at all accurate, many of you will be spending today looking at winter precipitation coming down outside and hopefully not getting out of the house. Here, it's raining hard but sitting around 43, so I don't expect much if anything will occur save perhaps some freezing this evening.
If you are going to be inside, though, you should at least have some new stuff to read. While there's not much going on save the continuing discussions around Albert Pujols's contract, there are still a few links that I can toss out at you.
With the nasty weather outside, it can be hard to believe that spring training is just a couple of weeks away. The boys of summer will be back on the field before you know it, and KMOX has
released its radio schedule for those exhibition games. The first time you hear the wonderful sounds of John Rooney and Mike Shannon will be a month from today as the Cards take on the Mets. That should warm you up a little bit!
Over at Ballhyped, they put together a "
Best Sports Blogs Book of 2010". There is writing from all different sports there as you get a good feel for what was going on last year through some good writing. They also accepted my submission as well, so I'm proud to be a part of it.
While I'm in full
Bill Ivie mode, let me mention a couple of other things. First off, Bill and I will be doing another weekly show in addition to our work on the UCB Radio Hour. Some of you may know that I've been posting at Seamheads (or, rather, reposting some of these posts) for a while and Seamheads is also a part of the
Baseball Bloggers Alliance. Mike Lynch, the owner of the site, is starting up what he terms the
Seamheads National Podcasting Network, which will be sponsored by Big League Chew. Numerous podcasts over at Blog Talk Radio covering baseball markets from east to west. Bill and I will be on "Gateway To Baseball Heaven" starting February 13th. Every Sunday at 9:30 we'll talk about what's going on in Cardinal baseball for a half-hour. We'll put up links when it gets closer, but put it on your calendar.
Speaking of the UCB show, remember that starting this week, we've moved under the Ivie League Productions banner. If you usually get to the show through links on Twitter or blogs, you may not notice a difference. Instead of searching for UCB Host on Blog Talk Radio now, you need to look for I70 Baseball.
This week's show will have myself and Nick from
Pitchers Hit Eighth talking to Geoff Goldman of Fox Sports Midwest. Geoff was the man that made
all of this happen last year and it'll be good to talk to him about some of the changes at FSMW for the coming year.
Chris Jaffe is a writer for The Hardball Times and tends to send along links to articles that he's written that include the Cardinals. Recently, he's penned two different one with those connections. First, he
showcased a day when four future Hall of Famers made their debut and later he had one about
bad losses in the postseason. While I don't think the latter will be any surprise to Cardinal fans, you might have a tough time guessing the former without reading the article.
While we are talking about articles that mention Cardinals, recent BBA member Astros Daily
put up a story comparing Mark McGwire and Jeff Bagwell when it comes to the Hall of Fame and how the steroid era factors in. Head on over there and check it out.
Coming up next weekend in Springfield, Missouri is the first
Midwest Baseball Writers Convention. Another one of Ivie's projects, there are some great guest speakers lined up for that and it'll be a good chance to meet up with some fellow bloggers. If you are in the area at that time, I encourage you to stop by.
If you haven't noticed by now, over on the sidebar under the United Cardinal Bloggers portion of the blog roll is a nice little orange button. Click that and it'll
take you to a page so you can download the UCB app for either your iPhone or your Android phone. Take some great Cardinal writing wherever you go! By the way, if you missed out on seeing all the different posts from last Friday's project, you can
see the index post here.
Hopefully that's enough to keep you going on this miserable day. Maybe some news will break soon so we'll have something new to talk about!
