Instead of being in St. Louis last night, I was at the local school board meeting watching my kindergarten son being honored as Student of the Month for his elementary school. That was a wonderful thing and, even if I'd been able to go to Social Media Night last night, I'd have turned it down because of that. (With it being during the week anyway, though, there just wasn't any way I could make it, but I have to brag on my son somehow, right?)
As someone that is fairly involved in the Cardinal internet fandom, it felt strange to be giving away my tickets to this event. However, I was able to find a taker in Jason, also known as @mtr08 on Twitter. In exchange for going in my stead, he offered to write up his experience. Here's his take on last night's events.

So last night thanks to the wonderful C70, I attended Social Media Night at the Cards vs. Phillies game. I had a lot of fun going with a good friend of mine and watching an exciting finish to the game. Plus I got a free t-shirt. How can you turn down a free t-shirt?
We went to the social hour before the game. My friend and I were way early. We were at the game before the gates opened. We didn't go upstairs straight away but we still went before the time it was supposed to start. We received our free shirts and chatted a minute with the lovely women handing them out. We sat down and had a good conversation while watching the people coming. We were looking for another friend of ours who as we found out later in the night missed the social hour but was at the game.
If I had gone with someone else who is a bigger fan, I probably would have intermingled more and tried to meet people. Honestly though I don't know faces of a lot of the people that I follow and interact with on twitter. That was a hindrance and I am shy to boot. So maybe next time I will make more effort to meet people face to face that I interact with.
I liked the section we were in. I have never sat in this section before for a game. The foul pole was a bit in my way but honestly just shifted my head a little this way or that way and I was fine. Good place to seat for potential souvenir balls. :) Pujols did hit a foul ball into the section next to us.
Enjoyable game as long as you block out Greene dropping the ball in more ways than one. I hated to see Garcia not get a decision in the game. He pitched a good game and shame that the unearned run cost him the win. The finish was great though. The Cards came out swinging in the 9th and I think there was just no way were they going to let this game head to extra innings. They came out to win the game in the 9th and they did. Plus they got more than 9 hits so cheap donuts at Krispy Kreme. Too bad there is not one closer to me that I could have gone to this morning on the way to work. :) There is always next time.
It is always nice to make it out to a game since I don't go to that many. I really like the Cards embracing social media and doing a night like this and doing a night last season as well. They need to keep it up. Plus I got a free t-shirt. Who doesn't want a free t-shirt? Free tickets thanks to this wonderful blog, free t-shirt, good night out with my friend, and a Cardinal win. You can't beat that.

I appreciate Jason taking the time to fill us in and I'm glad he had such an enjoyable time. The next time they have a SMN (that doesn't work for my schedule, 'cause I'm taking them if I can), this could be you!
The Baseball Bloggers Alliance was formed in 2009 to foster
communication and collaboration between bloggers across baseball.
Member blogs are encouraged to use one another to deepen their
understanding of the game and the teams that play it. You can see the constitution of the group here.
The BBA has, as a secondary aim, the goal of producing year-end
awards in a similar fashion to the Baseball Writers of America. These
awards can be found at the official site in October with links back to the voters,
ensuring transparency and, most likely, the onset of some good baseball
arguments.
